This story has taken many forms, but here I offer it in a shared time and space, in my own voice.
Given my resolution to create fewer material objects, I wanted to go beyond the original printed text (limited edition, hand-bound, accompanied by hand-painted water colors) using other forms of communication. In my public readings, one can hear the emotion of the words and engage all the senses. These gatherings emphasize the somewhat lost art of storytelling as a way of creating community and sharing knowledge.
Inspired by a historical figure, the story follows a woman’s journey in confronting deep loss and finding healing. She crosses seas and walks the wildness of the earth. In her path, she reflects on the beauty in the everyday, the building of home, the care of children and the power of love. Amidst the strength of hills and the soft curves of water she grows a new life. It is a land of plenty, of birth, of nurturing – the land of Cockaigne. I evoke her as a feminine archetype: a well to nourish us and our world.

Cette histoire a pris de nombreuses formes, mais je la propose ici dans un temps et un espace partagé, avec ma propre voix.
Déterminée à créer moins d'objets, j’ai choisi de la partager au-delà du texte imprimé (édition limitée, reliée à la main, accompagnée d'aquarelles peintes à la main) en utilisant d'autres formes de communication : lors de mes lectures publiques, chacun peut entendre l'émotion des mots et solliciter tous ses sens. Ces rassemblements mettent en lumière l'art quelque peu perdu du récit comme moyen de créer une communauté et de partager des connaissances.
Inspiré d'un personnage historique, le récit suit le parcours d'une femme confrontée à un deuil et cherchant la guérison. Elle traverse les mers et arpente une terre sauvage. Sur son chemin, elle réfléchit à la beauté du quotidien, à la construction d'un foyer, aux soins prodigués aux enfants et à la puissance de l'amour. Entre la force des collines et les doux reflets de l'eau, elle fait naître une nouvelle vie. C'est un pays d'abondance, de fertilité et de bien-être – le pays de Cocagne. J’ évoque cette figure comme un archétype féminin : une source qui nous nourrit, nous et notre monde.
