I first thought of making a giant white quilt a few years ago after hearing the lyrics of a French love song proposing to “cover my scars with a white linen” but it felt like an overwhelming task to realize alone.
In the winter of 2021, I was invited for an artist residency in Maine and the beauty and peace created by the snow reminded me of the comforting feeling of being “blanketed”. That same week I met a talented quilt-maker in Rockland, Debbie Morrison, who offered her help. In a few months together we made this quilt from family heirloom linen.
When I brought the quilt to the Parsonage gallery to be installed for the first time, it turned out to be too large for the room. As we searched for a way to install it, it presented itself as an altar.

J’ai pensé a créer un patchwork géant il y a quelques années après avoir entendu les paroles d’une chanson qui promettait de « couvrir de linge blanc mes années de guerre » … mais la réalisation paraissait difficile.
Durant l’hiver 2021, j’ai été invitée à faire une résidence d’artiste dans le Maine aux Etats-Unis et la beauté et le calme engendrés par la neige fraiche le matin m’a rappelé cette idée d’être « recouverte de blanc ». La même semaine j’ai rencontré Debbie Morrison, une spécialiste du patchwork de Nouvelle-Angleterre qui m’a proposé son aide. En quelques mois le patchwork était réalisé à base de linge ayant appartenu à ma famille.
Lorsque j’ai apporté « Blanketed » pour l’installation a la Parsonage Gallery nous nous sommes rendu compte que l’œuvre était trop grande pour être posée au sol. A la recherche d’une nouvelle façon de le présenter … un autel est apparu … un autel pour la paix … et cette fois pas seulement pour moi-même mais pour tous.
